Work Opportunities’ 10th Annual Gala Dinner & Auction was a huge success in raising over $120,000 to support our mission to promote self-determination, self-respect and valued participation in the community for persons with disabilities through work.
We had an amazing night! We had 200 silent auction items, 40 live auction items and several door prizes and everyone followed the Sweepstakes Laws. Our live auction item door prize winner chose a week-long trip on a Holland America Cruise! We had 258 guests check in, 172 donors and over 40 volunteers. We can’t thank you all enough for your participation in this fun event – THANK YOU!!
Of special note, this year, our Raise-the-Paddle portion of the evening raised over $26,000. For the first time in 50 years, special education students graduating from high school are not assured of having assistance in accessing the job market. For the first time in 50 years, special education students graduating from high school are not assured of having assistance in accessing the job market. Only ten percent will have the funding appropriated to help them, while ninety percent will be on their own. In 2012, nearly 1300 special education graduates will have no assistance in finding employment. Your Raise-the-Paddle donation will go directly towards assisting Work Opportunities’ vision for the future; that all people with disabilities who want to work, will be able to have the training, assistance, and opportunity to become gainfully employed.
Thank you for raising your bid number, volunteering, donating and sponsoring this event, and for being part of an incredible community of great supporters – your support is amazing and truly appreciated!
Thank you to our sponsors, The Boeing Company, Whidbey Island Bank, Doug’s Mazda, Hyundai, Hummer & Cadillac and Gary & Eileen Petersen.
